What is a Root Canal Retreatment?

Endodontists are experienced in root canal retreatment. New trauma, decay, or loose fillings can lead to
recontamination of the root canal space by oral bacteria. If this occurs, a dental abscess can occur even
in a previously root canal treated tooth. By removing the contaminated root filling material, the
endodontist can then re-clean and disinfect the root canal space. In some cases, the endodontist can locate
additional small or calcified canals that could not be treated in the initial procedure. |
